Joseph T. Barr Fund

Overview

Many members of the Academy consider Joseph T. Barr, OD, MS, FAAO, to be an exceptional mentor and role model for our profession.  Joe has worked as an academic, researcher, clinician and most recently in industry. During his years at The Ohio State University College of Optometry, a significant number of students and colleagues were fortunate enough to benefit from his teaching

and research. During this time Joe also served as Chair of the Section on Cornea and Contact Lenses as editor of Contact Lenses Spectrum and became extremely well known by clinicians and researchers around the globe. Joe currently works as Vice-President Clinical & Medical Affairs Global Vision Care at Bausch + Lomb.  He also serves as a director on the foundation board of directors and is a member of the Presidents Circle of giving. In recognition of these extraordinary contributions to optometry and contact lenses, we welcome the opportunity to have a fund be established to honor Joe.

The broad goal of the fund is to provide support for students in optometry and vision science. The exact nature of the award—for example a travel fellowship,  grant,  residency award,  or scholarship—will be determined by the Foundation Board in consultation with all major donors (i.e. those contributing $10,000 or above). The Foundation Board will determine the timeline,  application and the criteria for selection once the endowment reaches full potential.
