The 2012 American Academy Meeting in Phoenix is just around the corner! Here is a reminder of the exciting Section events that you won't want to miss:

Wednesday, October 24th 3:00-5:00; Room 124 A-B, Convention Center
Speakers in this symposium will provide an overview to vision research in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, discuss the link between visual spatial issues and function and report findings of pilot studies on convergence and spectacle wear in patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Speakers include Ricki Robinson, MD, MPH; David Simmons, DPhil; Rachel Coulter, OD, FAAO; and Annette Bade, OD, FAAO.
Note that this year's Plenary Session, will also highlight the highly relevant topic of Autism Spectum Disorders. Although the Plenary Session is an Academy sponsored event (not a Section event), we mention it here due to the relevance of this important topic.

During this session, Ricki Robinson, MD, MPH, a nationally sought after expert in autism, will give an overview of this disorder from a clinical perspective. David G. Amaral, PhD, will also provide an overview of the current state of knowledge on the disorder giving some perspective as to what is fact and what is fiction. Seating is limited - register today!

Make sure to attend our Annual Dessert Reception this year. This is a great time to reconnect with colleagues and friends and to meet new ones. Those of you who are interested in the Diplomate process will have an opportunity to speak with those who are current Diplomates and collaborate with those who are also beginning the process.

Our annual Section Meeting....your chance to learn about what's new in our Section and to give your input as well. This year is an election year and we will be voting for a new Board of Officers. All BVPPO Section members are invited to attend.

The initiation of our first Diplomate Preparatory Course has been met with an overwhelming response. In order to ensure the quality of the workshop portion, we unfortunately needed to limit the number of registrants.
You can still pursue the Diplomate, even if you were unable to register for the DPC this year! We encourage you to "buddy-up" with one of the many others who are interested in engaging in this valuable process. In addition, you can be "mentored" by a current Diplomate of your own choosing or we can help find one for you. In addition to the Candidate's Guide (available on the Academy Website), we have developed some helpful documents, such as a Case Report Tracking Guide. Be sure to come to our Section Reception to connect with others who have already gone through the process or are just beginning!
