The 2010 Annual Academy Photography Contest will open on June 1st and close at midnight PST on August 31st, with the winners being announced by September 17th. This year there will be two categories for participation in the contest: Optometrists and Ophthalmic Technicians. Please indicate in your submission which category you are in.

Contestants may submit up to two (2) photographs per category (listed below). The images submitted must be in one of the following formats: jpg, tiff, gif or bmp. These images must remain in a non-modified manner, i.e. no enhancements by either proprietary software from which the image was captured, or by programs such as Adobe Photoshop,™. No 35 mm slides or photographic prints will be accepted. Multiple images, either sequential in time (as in a Fluorescein angiogram), or using two different technologies to image the same entity (as in a color photo and fluorescein angiography), or to fully appreciate the size of the clinical entity may also be submitted. Previously, contestants were able to submit images obtained utilizing such equipment as OCT, GDx and HRT. These images will not longer be accepted as entries into the photography contest. A listing of the acceptable images is found below.

The images should be submitted under one of the following categories:
Posterior Segment: Color, Fluorescein Angiography/ICG

Anterior Segment: Lids, Cornea/Conjunctiva, Contact Lens, Iris, Lens, Angle/Gonioscopy

The images will be assigned a number upon submission and will be graded by a panel of judges “blind” to the photographer’s name. The Grand Prize winner from each entry category will have their photograph displayed in an optometric publication, as well as in the show daily, AAO Times, at Academy 2010 San Francisco. In addition to the Grand Prize winner we will award a 1st runner up, 2nd runner up and 5 honorable mentions. Please complete the Submission Form for each separate image, or group of images, with the submitted files. All of the images and the Submission Forms should be forwarded, as well as any questions regarding the contest, to Blair Lonsberry via email to AcademyPhotographyContest at the domain gmail.com.

Each of the submissions will be graded using ten different criteria each of which is scored 1-10. The criteria used are as follows: Focus, Exposure, Field of View, Difficulty of Capturing Image, Absence of Distracting Elements, Lighting and Visual Impact (Wow! Factor).
