  The 2008 Annual Academy Photography Contest will open on May 1st and close at midnight PST on August 31st, with the winners being announced by September 17th. Contestants may submit up to two (2) photographs per category (listed below). The images submitted must be in one of the following formats: jpg, tiff, giff or bmp. These images must remain in a non-modified manner, i.e. no enhancements by either proprietary software from which the image was captured, or by programs such as Adobe Photoshop,™. No 35 mm slides or photographic prints will be accepted. Multiple images, either sequential in time (as in a Fluorescein angiogram), or using two different technologies to image the same entity (as in a color photo and OCT), or to fully appreciate the size of the clinical entity may also be submitted.

Posterior Segment:

  • Color
  • Fluorescein Angiogrpahy/ICG
  • OCT/HRT/GDx/Talia
Anterior Segment:
  • Lids
  • Cornea/Conjunctiva
  • Contact Lens
  • Iris
  • Lens
  • Visante/UBM
The images will be assigned a number upon submission and will be graded by a panel of judges “blind” to the photographer’s name. One Grand Prize will be awarded for a complimentary registration to the October 2008 Annual Academy Meeting in Anaheim. In addition to the Grand Prize winner we will award a 1st runner up, 2nd runner up and 5 honorable mentions. Please complete the Submission Form for each separate image, or group of images, with the submitted files. All of the images and the Submission Forms should be forwarded, as well as any questions regarding the contest, to Blair Lonsberry via email to AcademyPhotographyContest at the domain gmail.com.

Each of the submissions will be graded using ten different criteria each of which is scored 1-10, so each submission is graded on a 100 point scale. The criteria used are as follows: Clarity, Focus, Field of View, Framing, Difficulty of Capturing Image, Technique, Uniqueness, Brightness, Artifacts and a Wow! Factor.
