Apply directly on the submission site for an ARVO 2010 student travel fellowship. Under ARVO Student Travel Fellowship, select “apply.” If not a current member of the Academy, you must create a profile for yourself before applying (select “create one” under Awards Call List). Academy members, please enter your member ID (select “login” under Awards Call List).

Application deadline is Friday, March 12, 2010 and faculty or advisor recommendations are due Monday, March 15, 2010.

It is with great sadness that we report to you the loss of a giant of optometry and the Academy. Mert Flom was a respected teacher and an inquisitive researcher with a passion for leadership education. He was a past editor of the Academy's journal, founded our leadership courses, and served as the Academy's president from 1980 - 1982. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family. Mert, we will all miss you.

Please join the Academy in congratulating Gil Pierce, OD, PhD, FAAO, in becoming the President of the Ohio Optometric Association (OOA). He was inducted October 3, 2009 at the EastWest Eye Conference in Cleveland. His goal during presidency is to continue to advocate on behalf of vision and visual health of Ohio's children, maintaining and increasing membership at OOA, and continuing to grow the EastWest Eye Conference into a world-class optometric continuing education meeting. Prior to serving as President of OOA, he served as Trustee for four years, followed by serving one year each as Secretary-Treasurer and President-Elect.

The two conferences will start with WCRE, hosted by the International Centre for Eyecare Education in association with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (September 20-22, 2010) and conclude with WCOE6 (September 22-24, 2010) hosted by the World Council of Optometry. The two events will overlap for one dynamic afternoon and dinner event which promises to provide unprecedented networking and industry exchange.
