Monthly Update
from
Ed Bennett, OD, MSEd, FAAO
Chair

THANK YOU
I want to thank the Section members who were kind enough to complete a recent online survey. We had a total of 174 responses which resulted in a tremendous number of ideas for member benefits, future programs and resources, and position papers. In addition, many Diplomates in the Section indicated an interest in becoming more involved and, as a result 15 individuals have been asked to serve on one of several new committees.

IMAGE BANK
A reminder that we are asking our Section Diplomates to provide images to our new image bank and, in return, you are welcome to use these images in any presentations as they are watermarked with the Section logo as well as the individual who contributed the image. All Diplomates should have received a user name and password a few months ago that came from noreply@cvimagebank.com. If you do not have this email, please contact Dwight Akerman at dwightakerman@cibavision.com to request a new user name and password. The Section wants to express its appreciation for CIBA VISION's efforts in including the Section in this valuable resource as well as sponsoring the Section leadership midyear planning meeting at SECO last month. Their travel department did a heroic job in working around the many travel challenges occurring with the unexpected blizzard in Atlanta.

A CALL FOR
AWARD NOMINATIONS

The Section is still accepting nominations for the awards to be presented this November in San Francisco. The Section's highest honor, the Max Schapero Memorial Award is given in recognition of significant contributions to the field of cornea and contact lenses by virtue of publications, lectures, and research. The Founder's Award is in recognition of outstanding contributions to the Clinical Art and Science of Contact Lens Fitting. For nominations for potential 2010 Max Schapero and Founder’s Awards recipients, please submit a cover letter and a curriculum vitae of the individual to be nominated to Awards Chair, Steve Grant (RX4U2C@aol.com) by March 19th.

A GOOD TIME
TO INITIATE
THE DIPLOMATE PROCESS

There have been a large number of new fellows, survey respondents, and established fellows who either have exhibited interest in entering the Diplomate program or have been recommended by current Diplomates. With the number of resources and benefits currently increasing, this is a good time to initiate the program. Please contact our Diplomate Award Chair, Dr. Clarke Newman, at cdnewman@earthlink.net. You can also visit our website for more information. For individuals currently engaged in the Diplomate process, I sincerely hope that we will be honoring you at the New Diplomate Reception in San Francisco and that I would have the opportunity to recognize you at the Annual Banquet.
