Tuesday, October 10, 2017
The Armed Forces Optometric Society (AFOS) will be holding its annual meeting prior to the Academy 2017 Chicago. This event includes a full day of continuing education designed for optometrists in federal service optometry (Air Force, Army, Navy, Veterans Affairs, Public Health and Indian Health Services, and other Federal entities). Additionally, there will be opportunities for attendees to interact with fellow federal service optometrists and colleagues during the day and at the evening President’s Reception. The day also includes the AFOS annual business meeting and a unique exhibit hall. AFOS welcomes all students and practitioners interested in federal service optometry to attend. Ocular Nutrition Society (ONS)
The demand for vision services is expected to flood the healthcare system by 2020 due to age related eye disease and the diabetes epidemic. The Ocular Nutrition Society (ONS) is a non-profit organization focused on educating the eye care profession about disease prevention, including lifestyle modification, attention to dietary intake and micronutrient supplementation and how these are critical to an integrated approach to primary vision care.
Each year, ONS presents its Fall Symposium just prior to the Academy meeting. It is an afternoon of certified lectures designed to inform and educate on nutrition and eye health topics. The Fall Symposium is open to both members and non-members. Further information about the ONS and details regarding the 2017 Fall Symposium will be posted on the ONS website at www.ocularnutritionsociety.org.
