Michael W. Ohlson, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Chair
 
Dr. Ohlson was born in Cherokee, Iowa, graduated from Buena Vista College, and received his doctorate from the University of Houston College of Optometry.   He has served as clinical preceptor to optometric interns, coordinator of a residency program, clinical examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, course reviewer for the Council on Optometric Practitioner Education, and member of the Iowa Board of Optometry. Dr. Ohlson is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry. His volunteer efforts include Vision USA, InfantSEE, Lions Clubs International-Special Olympics Opening Eyes, Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity/International, Head Start, and Palmer Lutheran Health Center’s Community Diabetes Prevention Team. In 2004, he was awarded Diplomate status in the American Academy of Optometry’s Primary Care Section. When not seeing patients in rural Iowa, Dr. Ohlson’s favorite activity is spending time with his spouse, Joleen, and their beloved daughter, Samantha.
 

 

 
C. Ellis Potter, OD, FAAO
Immediate Past Chair

 
Dr. Ellis Potter A graduate of Kansas University and Southern College of Optometry (in 1967), Dr. Potter served as base optometrist for Kincheloe AFB, Michigan. He practiced in Salina, KS and Denver, CO before returning to South East Kansas to establish, in Iola, KS in 1979, a multidiscipline private practice that now includes three optometrists and two ophthalmologists.
 
Dr. Potter has been involved on many Optometry Boards and committees. He was for 7 years the editor of the Kansas Optometric Journal. He was named the 2006 Optometrist of the Year by the Kansas Optometric Association. He and his wife have participated lead a number of VOSH missions to South America and in 2006 he was named a Fellow of VOSH International.
 
Dr. Potter became a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 1971 and served for 8 years on the Admittance Committee. In 1998 he became a Diplomate of the Primary Care Section of the Academy and has served as the Diplomate case reports chairman as well as the Case Reports Chair.

 

 

Mika Moy, OD, FAAO
Vice-Chair

 

 Dr. Mika Moy did her undergraduate work at Northwestern University and her OD degree from UC Berkeley, and completed her residency there in Pediatrics and Contact Lenses. She is currently an Associate Clinical Professor at UC Berkeley School of Optometry. She teaches third and fourth year interns at the University Health Services clinic in Primary Care, Contact Lenses, as well as Urgent Care optometry. She is Residency Supervisor and is active on many committees at the school. Her interests include outreach clinics and she has directed clinics to underserved populations including Indian Health clinics, as well as disaster relief in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Moy has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry since 1998, and is an examiner for the National Boards.

 

Christina Wilmer, OD, FAAO
Program Chair
 
Dr. Christina Wilmer Dr. Christina Wilmer completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California Santa Cruz and then completed her OD degree at the University Of California Berkeley School Of Optometry. She completed her residency training in Hospital-Based and Primary Care Optometry at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
 
She is an Associate Clinical Professor at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry where she serves as Director of Residency Programs, Chief of the Tang Eye Center as well as the Chief Mentor of the Primary Care Residency. She has lectured locally, regionally and nationally on a number of clinical topics. She has actively served on numerous university committees, is a past member of the ASCO Residency Affairs Committee is a National Board Examiner and serves the local medical community as a member of the Alta Bates Medical Center Ethics Committee.
 
Dr. Wilmer is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and has also served as the Communication Chair for the Primary Care Section.
 
  
 
Harold R. Bohlman, OD, FAAO
Diplomate Section Chair
 
Dr. Harold R. Bohlman Dr. Hal Bohlman received his Bachelor of Science from Washington and Lee University in Virginia in 1982, and graduated from the University of Houston College Of Optometry in 1986. After graduation, he served on active duty with the Army until 1993, and served in the Army Reserves until he retired in January 2007. He was in private practice in Iowa for two years, prior to coming to the James H. Quillen VAMC in Johnson City, Tennessee as a staff optometrist in 1995 where he continues to practice.
 
Dr. Bohlman has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry since 1997, and received his Diplomate status in Primary Care with the American Academy of Optometry in 2002.
 
 
Andrew Gurwood, OD, FAAO
Diplomate Written Examination Chair
 
Dr. Andrew Gurwood Dr. Andrew S. Gurwood is a Professor of Clinical Sciences, an attending optometric physician in Module 1 of The Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and a member of the clinical staff of Albert Einstein Medical Center, Department of Ophthalmology. He has lectured and published nationally and internationally on a wide range of subjects in the arena of ocular disease. His areas of active research include diseases of the anterior and posterior segment. Doctor Gurwood earned a Diplomate from the American Academy of Optometry in the Section of Primary Care, where he serves as The Chair of The Section’s Written Examination Committee and as a member of the Oral Examination Committee. He also serves in The American Academy of Optometry as The Chairperson of Fellow Admittance Committee in Region 1 and Chair of the Candidate Preparation Program.
 
In 1998, he was recognized nationally as The American Optometric Association’s Young Optometrist of The Year. He has twice been recognized by his local optometric society (Buxmont) as the Optometrist of The Year and was recognized by the state of Pennsylvania as its OD of the year in 2006. In 2005, he again received National acclaim, being inducted into the prestigious National Academies of Practice.
 
Dr. Gurwood is dedicated community servant. He is a Lieutenant in The Northampton Township Volunteer Fire Company where he also serves as an Emergency Medical Technician. He is a ProBoard Certified Vehicle Rescue Technician, Rope Rescue Technician a State EMT Instructor and recently has matriculated as Faculty of The Pennsylvania State Fire Academy, Lewistown, PA.
 
 
Michael Radoiu, OD, FAAO
Practical Exam Chair
 
Dr. Mike Radoiu was born in Detroit, Michigan. After high school he attended the University of Michigan where he studied Pre-Medical Studies. After receiving a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology, he attended Ferris State University where he received his Doctorate of Optometry. Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Navy as a Medical Service Officer. He served in various commands both stateside and overseas.
 
After his active duty service, he left the Navy and joined a hospital-based practice in California. After a three year hiatus, he rejoined the Navy as a Reservist. During this period of time he served for six years as an executive officer and commanding officer of various Navy medical units attached to Marine Corps infantry battalions. He was subsequently the Operations Officer with the 4th Medical Battalion 4th Field Service Support Group (FSSG) and as an OIC of various detachments affiliated with Naval Hospital Portsmouth, Virginia.
 
He is currently the Training Officer attached to the Headquarters Command Naval Hospital Portsmouth. He and his family (wife Sharon and children Anthony, Mick and Gabrielle) currently live in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley where he practices with the Rockingham Eye Physicians (Harrisonburg, VA). He is both a Fellow and Diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry and is active in both his state and local optometric organizations.
 
Ernie Bowling, OD, FAAO
Diplomate Interview Chair
 
Dr. Ernie Bowling Dr. Ernest L. Bowling received his Doctor of Optometry and Master of Science in Physiological Optics degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry.
 
Dr. Bowling serves as Associate Professor of Optometry and Director of Primary Eye Care Services at the UABSO. He is Associate Clinical Editor of the journal Review of Cornea & Contact Lenses and serves on the editorial board of Optometric Management and Contemporary Optometry journals. He is the chief optometric editor of VisionCare CE and past editor of the internet e-journals Comprehensive Optometry and Diagnostic Digest. Dr Bowling is a past recipient of the Georgia Optometric Association’s Bernard Kahn Memorial Award for outstanding service to the optometric profession and is a past AOF Ezell recipient.
 
Dr. Bowling is a Diplomate in the Primary Care Section of the American Academy of Optometry and serves as the Diplomate Interview Chair.
