As the 2012 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Optometry in Phoenix is just around the corner, we would like to update you about some VS Section activities and to invite you to attend our events.
Elections for VS section officers  
 

We are pleased to announce that:

  • Lei Liu was elected Vice-Chair of the VS Section and Shaban Demirel was elected Vice-Chair of the Diplomate Program of the VS Section.
  • Alex Bowers will be taking over as Chair of the VS Section and Suresh Viswanathan as Chair of the Diplomate Program of the VS Section
VS Section events in Phoenix  
 
  • Vision Science Section Reception. Thursday October 25, 7.00 – 8.30pm. South Mountain Room (Sheraton)
  • Vision Science Section Business meeting. Friday October 26, 7.00-8.00 am. Room 131A (Convention Center). An important agenda item will be to discuss the Diplomate Program and how we can generate more VS Section Diplomates
  • ARVO/AAO Joint Symposium, "Rod Vision - Structure, Function, Treatment and Rehabilitation" Friday, October 26, 10.00 am - Noon, Room 124 A-B (Convention Center) Taking a "front to back" approach to the rod division of the visual system examining novel new imaging methodologies for assessment of the structure of components of the retina, visual function as experienced through rods, the genetics of inherited rod disease and the potential for gene therapies and treatments: Alfredo Dubra, PhD, Gunilla Haegerstrom- Portnoy, OD, PhD, FAAO, Artur Cideciyan, PhD, Gang Luo, PhD, and Ian Bailey, OD, DSc, FAAO.
Interested in attending the Fellows Doing Research SIG?  
 

There is an opening for one clinician from the Vision Science Section to attend the Fellows Doing Research SIG on Friday October 26 from 7-8 am. This SIG is looking for clinicians to be a part of various registry groups. This is an important initiative within the Academy which needs our input and support.
