BACKGROUND: Bilateral, non-granulomatous, anterior uveitis in association with other systemic inflammatory events such as erythema nodosum is highly suspicious for the presence of systemic lupus erythematosa (SLE). In the case where an ANA is negative, other etiologies must be considered.
CASE REPORT(S). One case illustrating the unusual presentation of bilateral, non-granulomatous, anterior uveitis with erythema nodosum in a young, caucasian, post-partum, nursing female is discussed.
CONCLUSIONS. Idiopathic onset of isolated post-partum inflammatory events in the absence of SLE is discussed. Issues of possible teratogenic consequences from therapeutic treatment of uveitis in a nursing mother will also be reviewed.
