TEAR FILM BUBBLE FORMATION FOLLOWING DECOMPRESSION

Abstract

Decompression disorders can occur following a reduction in environmental pressure due to dissolved gases forming bubbles in affected tissues. The objective of this study was to evaluate the utility of tear film bubble formation as an indicator of decompression. Eleven subjects were exposed to a simulated dive in a hyperbaric chamber to 100 feet sea water for 15 minutes. Tear film bubble formation was observed after 4 s of eye closure.
