This lecture will review infant examination techniques and clinical presentations as well as deviations from normal in the infant population. The expected findings in the areas of developmental milestones and ocular systems will be presented. Methods of visual acuity determination, detection of strabismus and amblyopia, and common refractive errors will be discussed. The goals of this course include increasing the practitioners comfort level when dealing with infants and stressing the importance of early intervention. The use of practical case examples and illustrative photographs aid the participants learning.
