Support the AAOF's BVP Ezell Fellowship Fund on Giving Tuesday

Published November 29, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to you as a member of the BVPPO Section. I also serve on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Optometry Foundation (AAOF).

This year the AAOF awarded the inaugural Binocular Vision and Pediatric Optometry Ezell Fellowship.

The BVP Ezell Fellowship Fund was created to support an annual Ezell Fellowship in clinical, educational, and research activities in binocular vision and pediatric optometry in perpetuity. This year’s recipient, Ann Morrison, OD, MS, FAAO, of The Ohio State University, has a research interest in investigating refractive error development in pediatric myopic populations with a history of prematurity.  We are pleased to recognize Dr. Morrison’s accomplishments and look forward to her future contributions.

To ensure that the BVP Ezell Fellowship can be awarded on an ongoing basis, we have initiated a fundraising effort to raise the $287,500 required to endow the BVP Ezell Fellowship.  The good news is that we are half way there. I am asking for your help to reach the goal. As you consider your end-of-year giving, please remember the BVP Ezell Fellowship.

There are several ways you can provide support.

  • Become a member of the prestigious President’s Circle. The AAOF President’s Circle was established in 1997 to recognize donors who contribute gifts of $10,000 or more. Since its inception, the President’s Circle has grown to include over 175 individuals and corporations. Contributions can be in the form of a one-time gift, planned gift, or a long-term pledge and can be restricted to a specific fund.

"I think we would all agree that the areas of binocular vision, visual perception and pediatrics requires more quality research. When I became aware that a specific BVP Ezell Fellowship Fund had been established, I felt it was important to support this fund and future binocular vision research in this area. The money provided by these scholarships should help young researchers to get started with pilot studies and serve as a springboard for their development as researchers and educators." Dr. Mitchell Scheiman, OD, PhD, FAAO – President’s Circle member.

  • Make a one-time donation with your membership renewal.
  • Designate your year-end contribution to the BVP Ezell Fellowship Fund.
  • If you are a presenter at the AAO Lectures and Workshops program, consider donating your honorarium to the AAOF.

Donations can be made online at http://bit.ly/2hVcGaJ.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the prestigious President's Circle, please contact Maureen Dimont, Director, Development at MaureenD@aaoptom.org.

We are the key to Advancing Optometry’s Future and with your help, I am confident we will reach the goal. Thank you in advance for your support!

Best regards,

Rachel “Stacey” Coulter, OD, MS, FAAO
