Now Hiring: Executive Director of the Academy and the Academy Foundation

The American Academy of Optometry and the American Academy of Optometry Foundation, headquartered in Orlando, FL, are seeking an energetic and innovative Executive Director to continue the advancement of their reputation and influence. The Academy has an operating budget of approximately $6 million and a staff of 17 serving over 11,500 members. The Academy’s Annual Meeting is the largest in optometry.

The Executive Director will collaborate with the Boards of Directors by developing and implementing operational plans, policies, and goals that further the Academy and Foundation strategic objectives, missions and visions. While providing leadership and guidance to the Boards, he or she will develop strategies to meet the needs of the optometry profession and its practitioners. The ED will also continue the exceptional success of the annual meeting by maintaining its high standards, anticipating future needs and requirements, and altering plans in reaction to internal and external opportunities and challenges.

The successful candidate will be a proven leader with the experience, creativity, and skill to lead the organizations to even greater heights. He or she will demonstrate the ability to direct the human, financial, and physical resources of a prominent scientific association and effectively interact with optometric clinicians, instructors, scientists, partner organizations and industry partners.

A Bachelor’s degree is required, and a Master’s degree preferred.
