President's Calling - Where There Are Vaccines, Let There Be Travel

Spring Has Sprung

Dear Academy membership,

As I write this, 250 million*, that’s MILLION, vaccines have been administered within the United States. Following the roll-out of vaccines to the men and women of the healthcare communities, the most vulnerable elderly population, the 65+ population, and the essential worker population, on April 19, vaccine eligibility became available to every adult over the age of 18. This opened up the option for vaccinations to all in our fellowship, interested in receiving one.
Accordingly, the CDC is seeking to achieve herd immunity by July 4, so we may all have a safe and truly independent celebration from COVID-19 this summer. While we may or may not achieve this, it is reassuring that progress continues on the vaccination front, which also ensures we are one step closer to Academy 2021 Boston.
As mentioned in the April newsletter, the Board and I continue to remain cautiously optimistic about meeting in Boston. As such, planning continues to move forward for Academy 2021 Boston, for both a safe, socially distanced, in-person meeting, as well as a virtual meeting option, following the conclusion of the annual meeting in Boston.
The Lectures and Workshop Committee have been working diligently and has more than 300 hours of continuing education programming assembled. Additionally, I’m excited to announce workshops will be returning, as well as the ACE courses, and a newly envisioned Leadership Program which kicks off in Boston and runs through the course of the following year. More on the Leadership Program will be coming this Summer to help you plan.
Our top priority in Boston is the health and safety of all Academy 2021 Boston attendees, corporate partners, exhibitors, and staff. In planning for a live meeting and in partnership with the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC), the Academy will adhere to all local, state, and CDC regulations and guidelines.
In helping us prepare, I want to take a moment and ask you to complete the Boston Intent to Attend Survey, by Friday, May 21. You’ll recall we issued two of these surveys last year as we sought to navigate the uncertainly and hurdles presented at the beginning of the pandemic, as it related to planning for last year’s annual meeting. You spoke and we listened last year, and now we’re asking again so we can gauge the “pulse” of our membership’s willingness and availability to join us in Boston.
We will continue to communicate updates via email related to Academy 2021 Boston as they become available. However, you can also visit the Academy meeting website for the latest information.
