President's Calling - Academy 2021 Boston - Registration Is Now Open

Published June 22, 2021

Spring Has Sprung

June is here. This means hurricane season has started as well as the Summer season. Most importantly, for the Academy, this means registration for our annual meeting has opened and did so June 1.

As Fellows of the Academy, you receive a discounted rate as one of your membership benefits. This year, we felt it prudent to maintain registration rates from previous years, as some may be recovering from financial hardships and impacts of the pandemic. Early-bird registration runs through August 30th and for Fellows and Candidates is $435. Regular-priced registration for Fellows and Candidates is $485 between August 31 and October 31. Lastly, while we hope you can register early to take advantage of the savings, should you find you need to wait until the last minute, onsite registration will be available and is $535.

If you’ve not had a moment to visit the annual meeting website, I encourage you to do so. There you will find the latest information on this year’s education, including the Education Grid and the Program Preview Guide, as well as information regarding the host hotels and rates, the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, and safety guidelines and protocols currently in place per the city of Boston and state of Massachusetts.

And speaking of safety and travel concerns, you’ll recall we issued an Intent to Attend Survey in May to gauge our loyal attendees’ willingness to join us in Boston. I’m happy to report that out of the more than 2,000 responses, an overwhelming 64% of respondents are planning to attend Academy 2021 Boston. This is very exciting, and I believe is a good indicator that life is returning to some level of pre-pandemic “normalcy.” If you’re interested in reading the full results, click here.

As we continue with planning, we will communicate any pertinent changes and information via email and post-up-to-date information on the annual meeting website.

Wishing you and yours continued health and safety

Sincerely,

Timothy McMahon, OD, FAAO
President
